The Sony MDR-V6 model is one of those classic gadgets that took over the tech world back in the 1980’s. They were promoted back in 1985 and Sony has developed tons of similar headphone sets since then, but Sony MDRV6 still remains one of the best headphones under $100.

Contrary to other items in the industry this model brings some class into the game. Don’t expect a bulky box coming to your doorstep when you order MDR-V6. You will receive a slim golden toned box with a small plastic window and a red satin beneath the headphones. Classic 80s throwback touch from Sony.

Sony MDR-V6 is pretty light weighing in at 8 ounces, which is slightly less than your average pair of over ear headphones. The design is rugged in its nature and consisted mostly of plastic elements with the exception of the outer ear cups, which are metal. Some of the other features include 40mm drivers, 63 ohm impedance and ear pads that can be replaced by the user.

You will immediately notice that the headband and the ear pads are not that thick and have somewhere slim padding, but this doesn’t affect the overall comfort that the Sony MDR-V6 provides. The coiled cable is pretty long measuring at maximum length of 10 feet positioned at the left ear cup, but it is not detachable and it has no mic or cell phone controls added to it.

That’s probably why MDR-V6 is not a good solution for cell phone or MP3 player usage. Although the cable ends with a 3.5mm plug, you can easily switch to a 6.3mm adapter plug that comes as a part of the basic package. One more reason to add Sony MDR-V6 in the group of best headphones under $100.
